The Albanian language comes from the Illyrian and Indo-European languages.
The Albanian language has only been attested by documents and records since the 15th century. Thus it cannot be determined whether the Albanian language is one of the oldest languages.
In addition, the Albanian language has no very close relatives. Although there are similarities to the Indo-European languages such as Latin, German, Serbo-Croatian and Greek, the Albanian language is a separate branch of the Indo-European language family.
